Understanding How Chemical Peels Work
Unhappy with the color, texture, evenness, or freshness of your facial skin? A chemical peel can help you shed tired old skin cells fast, revealing a brand new, younger-looking you.

Your skin is subject to a lot of aging effects from sun exposure, environmental pollutants, and home or workplace irritants. Chemical peels help reset your face by getting rid of old, damaged skin and revealing young, healthy skin underneath.

At Regenerative MedSpa of Buckhead in Atlanta, Georgia, our team of body wellness and anti-aging specialists enhances the tone and texture of your skin with safe, effective chemical peels.

How chemical peels work

You have three layers of skin, all of which experience regular cellular turnover. The top layer of skin, known as the epidermis, is the most vulnerable to damage. Your skin regenerates itself around every 27 days, but sometimes that’s not fast enough to keep up with aging.

Chemical peels speed up the regeneration process, stripping away the oldest, outermost skin so the newest skin underneath has a chance to shine. There are several different grades of peels.

Light peels

Light peels mostly remove already dead or dying skin cells as well as dirt and debris, giving your face a fresher look and helping to enhance your “glow.”

These peels have the gentlest ingredients, designed to clean, hydrate, and improve the radiance of your skin. You’ll feel refreshed and gorgeous after your peel!

Medium peels

Medium peels go a bit deeper into the skin to cause a deeper reaction, getting rid of skin cells that aren’t as damaged as the outermost ones, but that are still suffering incremental damage.

These peels include medical-grade chemicals that are skin-safe when applied by a professional, but which shouldn't be purchased and applied by a novice.

Your face might feel a little tight for a few days afterwards, but we add extra hydration and ingredients like glutathione to improve skin elasticity and help fade sun spots or liver spots.

Deep peels

Deep peels are some of the strongest peels available. We use trichloroacetic acid, one of the most common deep peel solutions.

This acid is applied carefully by your trained clinician and penetrates your skin down all the way through the epidermis to the newest, most baby-smooth cells your body has regenerated.

Again, we’ll protect your face with as much hydration as possible, so you should only feel like you’ve had a mild sunburn for a few days until the feeling wears off.
